Akaa-Volley and Savo Volley had a dramatic fight about getting into the final of the Finnish Cup. The teams played the semifinal in the very new arena called Luola (cave - the arena is mined in the rock)) in Kuopio in yesterday evening.
Savo Volley took the first two sets quite clearly by 25-18 and 25-17. The team made not a single error in the attacks! The star of the field during these first sets was Savo's Kaleb Jennes (11/+9) but Joonas Jokela was not much behind by 8/+6. In the both sets Akaa-Volley's attacks were not efficient enough - eight straight errors and five times Savo's block was stronger.
But, from the third set onward the audience was witnessing the real drama only sports can offer. Most probably, some 80 percent of the people in the stand were waiting for Savo Volley's celebrations for going in the cup final. This was underlined when Savo got four ball to win the match at the end of the third set: 24-23, 25-24, 26-25 and 26-25. But, Akaa-Volley managed to take the set when it got the first chance. Thus, the final numbers were 26-28!
And the dramatic evening continued. Akaa-Volley took the fourth set by 20-25 and the fifth one by 12-15. Savo did not gave up easily. The situation in the last set was still 10-10 and no one (if not Akaa-Volley's coaches and the captain Niklas Seppänen ; ) ) could know the winner. Akaa-Volley was a bit more aggressive at the end and took finally the match by 2-3 (25-18,25-17,26-28,20-25,12-15).
The statistics shows:
Savo Volley: Jennes 24/+15, Jokela 22/+5, Michelau 12/+5
Akaa-Volley: Jasper 22/+6, Seppänen 17/+13, Tyynismaa 14/+8
The cup final will be played in Turku on the 1st February and the opposite will be Hurrikaani Loimaa.
